BRISBANE archdiocese’s annual Multicultural Mass last Sunday highlighted some of Australia’s best qualities “great solidarity, welcoming and inclusion”.
That was combined with concern for others who are suffering as the congregation prayed for the people affected by the recent natural disasters in the Asia-Pacific region.
Contrast that with the Federal Government’s latest tendency to want to appear “tough” in its attitude to asylum seekers heading for Australia by boat.
That approach seems out of step with what we cherish about our national character.
