MEANING can appear superficial amidst the city’s never-ending advertisements.
When the commercial emphasis is so often on staying young and appearing “perfect”, how does someone truly grow up to navigate the challenges of authentic adulthood?
The St Stephen’s Cathedral Young Adults Ministry welcomes young men and women to encounter Christ through sharing prayer, fellowship, formation and good works.
The group’s annual event is the St Stephen’s Cathedral Youth Expo – this year on Sunday, August 2, from 12-4pm.
In partnership with Vocation Brisbane, the group welcomes young adults from all over Brisbane to encounter more than 20 different Catholic ministries at the expo.
Members of the group share a special 12pm Youth-Young Adult Mass followed by the 1-4pm expo, featuring dynamic stalls, live music, food, drinks and more.
The expo encourages involvement in the diverse treasures of Brisbane archdiocese, while also inviting a deeper understanding of vocation (priesthood, religious, marriage or single blessedness).
Throughout the month, YAM hosts weekly Sunday-evening activities, downstairs in the cathedral’s meeting room.
The room is accessible via Level One of the cathedral carpark, with entry via Charlotte Street or the stairway.
The first Sunday of the month is for “The Vine”, a friendly group discussion starting at 5.30pm.
At 7.30pm is the Young Adult Mass, welcoming young adults to worship together and volunteer in different roles.
On the second Sunday at 5.30pm, the group shares a religious DVD session.
On the third Sunday at 5.30pm, it has Eucharistic Adoration.
On the fourth and fifth Sunday of the month, members enjoy a social day like a Roma St Parkland barbecue or cinema outing.
A spokesperson said YAM blossomed through providing young adults with a welcoming, homely community, that nurtured an enriching prayer life, quality social interaction and holistic growth.
“Blessed by our 2014 Timor-Leste immersion experience, we look forward to embracing WYD16,” the spokesperson said.
