ST Leo’s College, established in 1917, is one of the smaller colleges at the University of Queensland.

It is home to 207 men from regional Queensland and Australia, and overseas.

A college spokesperson said St Leo’s residents were attracted by its excellent location, benchmark facilities, and teaching and learning outcomes “that reflect a commitment to supporting residents achieving their very best results”.

“St Leo’s enriches the regular student experience with 24/7 staffing arrangements with staff on site and available to respond to welfare and wellbeing needs as they arise, plus an extensive tutorial program and learning facilities,” the spokesperson said.

“In this vein, the college has a GPA of 5 and, like all of the UQ colleges, a very low attrition rate.

“In 2013 and 2014 the UQ Graduates of the Year were both St Leo’s residents.”

The college spokesperson said St Leo’s aligned itself with the priorities of the university – conferring equity bursaries on residents in financial need, and through jointly funded scholarships encouraging residents to involve themselves in the arts through music scholarships.

In 2016, St Leo’s also offers a merit scholarship program conferring resident scholarships for excellence in academic, cultural and sporting fields.

“The richness of the college experience includes the annual Duhig Lecture and Dinner, ICC Rowing Regatta and the Francis & Kassulke Rugby Fixture,” the college spokesperson said.

“St Leo’s is also known about UQ for its excellent catering with residents also enjoying after-hours access to the college’s Late Meal Room.

“The college experience brings new dimensions to student life through collegians being able to contribute to the college’s social justice program through community-building work as residents live out their respective personal faith commitments.”

St Leo’s will celebrate its centenary year in 2017, making it the fifth World War I era UQ college to celebrate this milestone.

The college shares its motto with Oxford University – Dominus Illuminatio Mea – the Lord is My Light.
