THE Queensland Irish Choir is based at Tara House, the headquarters of the Queensland Irish Association at 175 Elizabeth Street, Brisbane.

Its aim is to promote Irish culture as well as that of all Celtic countries.

The choir performs Irish and Celtic melodies from all regions and other music of merit.

It presents a regular concert series at Tara House, beginning with its traditional St Patrick’s Celebration Concert, usually on the Sunday before or after  March 17 and where the choir joins with QIA Pipers and Dancers.

The date of this year’s celebration is Sunday, March 15.

The choir will sing at the annual St Patrick’s Day Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral.

Its two other concerts are mid-year and Christmas.

These are always popular and attract a large audience.

This year the choir’s mid-year performance will have an Anzac flavour.

The choir performs at other venues throughout greater Brisbane and Northern NSW and community events such as Tartan Day in King George Square and Christmas Carols in the Mall.

In recent years, two choirs whose headquarters were at the Irish Club combined, Tara Singers and Celtic Connection, and the choirs are now known as Queensland Irish Choir.

Its musical director is David O’Keeffe and the accompanist is Tim Li, both of whom are accomplished performers known throughout Brisbane and Queensland.

The choir rehearses every Monday evening at the club, and on Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday.
