Time to pray: “The labyrinth, installed recently at Santa Teresa Spirituality Centre at Ormiston, is a wandering pathway to the centre and then back to the entry point.”

THE ancient use of labyrinths came about to provide an opportunity for a local pilgrimage, when journeys to the Holy Land or other sacred sites proved too costly or dangerous for people of old.

While global travel makes it much easier to visit Palestine, Lourdes in France or undertake the Camino in Spain, you can still be a pilgrim in your own backyard.

The labyrinth, installed recently at Santa Teresa Spirituality Centre at Ormiston, is a wandering pathway to the centre and then back to the entry point.

It is a motif of our spiritual journey reminding us that sometimes we feel close to the heart of God and other times we can seem distant and disconnected.

“Walking the labyrinth allows me to let go of my worries and concerns, embrace a fresh encounter of God and renew my energies for living the Gospel,” retreatant Mike said.

“It is a mini pilgrimage that recharges my spiritual battery without the expense or time commitment of travelling overseas.”

You can visit Santa Teresa for a day of prayer and quiet reflection as an individual or within a group.

The centre provides delicious meals and has formation rooms, chapels and outdoor prayer spaces including the labyrinth.

Modern ensuited accommodation is available for those wanting to stay longer.

To make a booking contact Michelle or Patrick by phone on (07) 3286 4011 or by email santateresa@bne.catholic.net.au or visit the website at www.santateresa.org.au
