A YOUNG woman from Ireland is devoting a year to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ among high school students in Brisbane archdiocese.

Niamh Healy, from County Meath in Ireland, is on this year’s Brisbane National Evangelisation  Team.

The 24-year-old, who first met Netters in her homeland, said: “I remember thinking that these people were somehow different but I pretty much forgot about it.

“Every couple of years after that I would randomly hear about NET but I had no idea that it existed in Australia until 2012.”

While living in Adelaide and becoming involved in her parish’s youth group, she decided to go to World Youth Day in Brazil.

It was there that she had a powerful experience of God’s love that brought her strongly back in touch with her Catholic faith and upbringing.

This led her to apply to be a volunteer with NET Ministries.

Asked about her experience of being on the Brisbane NET team, she said: “Every day is filled with joy, laughter and love for one another.

“I have the opportunity every day to draw closer to God and to bring others to Jesus.

“My own heart is being moulded this year and I’m helping other young people realise that they actually need Jesus in their life.”

Niamh said being a team leader had forced her to trust God on a deeper level.

“I know now that I can do anything with Jesus’ help,” she said.

The team is ministering at schools all over Brisbane archdiocese, from Hervey Bay to the Gold Coast to Gayndah.

It has led large retreats for Year 7-12 at many schools.
