THE front page of the Leader of December 1, that proclaimed success in priestly vocations, illustrated in clear fashion just how dependent we Australians are upon the immigrant Christians.
Three of the four men pictured were from regions of our world, where oppression and extremism are focused upon Christians of any persuasion. How is it then, we tolerate our Federal Government’s ruthless political exploitation, of its “Stop the Boats” mantra?
We Catholics must awaken from our politically induced complacency, and represent the suffering silent victims who followed their natural instinct to escape the slaughter and persecution in their homelands and seek reasoned assessment in this great land of “immigrants”.
Let us all look behind the propaganda facade and compare the well resourced fly-in over-stayers, with the disadvantaged boat folk. Then consider the modern day Judge “Pilate’s” ruthless contempt for honest and just evaluation of motivation and merit.
