THE streets of Brisbane came alive with faith on January 21 as almost 2000 people took part in a eucharistic procession from City Hall to St Stephen’s Cathedral.
The eucharistic procession was part of Adore 2006, a youth conference celebrating the Catholic faith.
More than 500 young people participated in the four-day festival.
Adore 2006 spokesman, Oblate Apostles of the Two Hearts Brother Stephen Gorecho said the procession was a Saturday night experience quite different to those usually enjoyed by young people in today’s society.
Adore 2006 focused on a back-to-basics approach to encourage and deepen the faith of young people.
“The energy and commitment of these young people is incredible,” Adore 2006 co-ordinator Ben Bulaong said.
Australian Catholic Students Association national chaplain, Jesuit Father Greg Jordan, said Adore 2006 was “a striking demonstration of young people’s faith”.
In a letter to youth gathered for the conference Brisbane Archbishop John Bathersby said: “I am happy to endorse Adore 2006 Congress in Brisbane … I’m sure the congress will help participants to understand this mystery of God even more deeply.”
