The World Youth Day Cross and Icon are heading back to Queensland from November 21 to 23, especially for Schoolies’ Week on the Gold Coast.
The symbols will be at St Vincent’s Church, Surfers Paradise on November 21 during Mass at 10.30am with three hours set aside that afternoon as a personal prayer opportunity for the school-leavers.
John Laws Park, Burleigh Heads, is the meeting place at 6pm that same day for a prayer gathering for a somewhat broader group.
“We are hoping that parishioners, parents and teachers will come to the Burleigh event to pray for the safety and well-being of the schoolies,” said WYD08 secretariat member Donna Longland.
On November 22 at 2pm, a ‘peace celebration’ will be hosted by the Vinnies youth crew (from the St Vincent de Paul Society) at Surfers Paradise near Cavill Avenue.
They will lead a procession back to St Vincent’s, where the Cross and Icon will be waiting, for another opportunity for personal prayer and adoration.
Mass will again be offered the following day at 2pm in St Vincent’s.
During the three day stint the World Youth Day Cross and Icon will also visit a Gold Coast hospital and the nearby Boystown facility.
