POPE Francis’ post-surgery recovery is proceeding normally and the routine follow-up tests are good, Holy See Press Office director Matteo Bruni said.

“His Holiness Pope Francis rested well overnight,” Mr Bruni said.

“This morning he had breakfast, read a few newspapers, and got up to walk.”

All eyes were on the Catholic Gemelli Hospital after Pope Francis was admitted for a scheduled colon surgery last Sunday.

His surgery lasted three hours and was performed under general anesthetic.

The pope will remain in hospital for the rest of the week.

Pope Francis is 84 years old.
