THOUSANDS of worshippers joined a procession with Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Ambrose De Paoli around the grounds of a Brisbane school last weekend to honour the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist at the annual Corpus Christi celebration.
More than 2500 people gathered at Nudgee Junior College, Indooroopilly last Sunday from dozens of different ethnic groups to celebrate the annual procession to mark the feast of Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ.
Archbishop De Paoli presided and preached at the celebration and emphasised the real presence of Jesus under the appearance of bread and wine in the Eucharist.
Organised by the Apostles of Mary, the procession attracts people from throughout Brisbane and aims to provide a procession for those parishes that do not have their own.
The day included the Eucharistic procession, Benediction, Rosary and other prayers.
Pope John Paul II revived the tradition of the Eucharistic Procession in 1979.
Pope Benedict XVI has continued the tradition this year and led more than 50,000 Catholics from the Basilica of St John Lateran to St Mary Major Basilica in Rome.
Groups from Italian, Vietnamese, Sudanese and Filipino’s were represented in the procession and they carried banners and wore national dress.
