ST Augustine’s College at Springfield, west of Brisbane, has finally taken delivery of its chapel.
St Monica’s Chapel, formerly St Stephen’s Church at Laravale, south of Beaudesert, was moved to the college in the early hours of July 28.
The building was a gift from the Laravale Catholic community to the college, which opened at the beginning of the year, but bad weather had postponed the arrival several times and the St Augustine’s community began to wonder if their new chapel would ever arrive.
St Augustine’s principal Leon Capra said it wasn’t just the children who had been anticipating the arrival of the chapel, but the greater Springfield area Catholic community as well.
The chapel will be used for school prayer and Masses, weekly Masses for the Springfield Catholic community, and in future, for weddings and funerals.
St Augustine’s College will be officially opened, with a blessing ceremony by Archbishop John Bathersby, on August 31 at 2pm.
