THE St Vincent de Paul Society in Queensland has called for an urgent overhaul of the Federal Government’s policies on poverty.
It has also challenged the major parties to declare their solutions to the problem before the next federal election.
The society’s Queensland president, Tim O’Connor, said Australia was in federal election mode, yet politicians, to date, ‘are ignoring this fundamental problem’.
‘We call on the major political groups to detail their proposed policies toward poverty,’ Mr O’Connor said.
‘How do they intend to address the causes of this disease, which seems to be crippling an increasing percentage of the population?’
