ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby of Brisbane has written a document on ‘Spirituality of Communion and Body of Christ’ for the people of his archdiocese.
Archbishop Bathersby has released the document as the archdiocese prepares for its Lenten program, ‘One Light, Many Journeys’, which focuses on ‘communion’.
He says in the document that it was produced for leaders in parish and school communities.
Archbishop Bathersby says communion exists at different levels of intensity in creation, humankind, Christianity, the Church and the family.
He draws on the words of Christ from John’s Gospel: ‘May they all be one. Father, may they be one in us, as you are in me and I am in you …’
The archbishop discusses communion in creation, in the Eucharist, ecumenism, among religions, in small groups and families, and in schools.
He says communion existing in God is extended through Jesus Christ to us and all creation, and we are in communion with all people because of our shared humanity.
