BRISBANE priest Fr Jim Cosgrove is playing an integral role in helping the children of an East Timor school. Fr Cosgrove, who works as an army chaplain in Sydney, recently presented the children of St Peter’s Primary School, Dili, with a cheque for $3000.
The money came via army military policeman, Major Mark Fox, who works with Fr Cosgrove in Sydney.
Major Fox, a parent with several school-age children, helped one of his son’s schools, Our Lady of the Rosary at Waitara, to raise $3000.
Now the children of St Peter’s Primary School in Dili, East Timor, will get new teachers.
Fr Cosgrove, who used to be parish priest at St Peter’s parish, Rochedale, was filling in as Defence Force chaplain in East Timor for two weeks while Fr Martin Langron took a well-earned break.
Not content with just handing over the money to St Peter’s School, Fr Cosgrove belted out a couple of tunes he has written especially for children, along with an old Aussie favourite, Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport.
