CONSULTANTS and contractors involved in construction of the new Holy Spirit Seminary at Banyo, due to open for the 2008 academic year, have been thanked for their efforts at a special on-site party.
The $4.5m seminary is now co-located with the Australian Catholic University (ACU) campus.
Accommodation will be provided for 16 seminarians, a rector and a spiritual director.
Its construction marks a return to the original site of the Pius XII Provincial Seminary at Banyo.
Seminary rector Fr Michael McCarthy told the gathering at the December 7 event that progress at the site in the past 12 months had been a “minor miracle”.
Fr McCarthy paid tribute to those involved on behalf of Archbishop John Bathersby and the bishops of Queensland including the seminary liaison Auxiliary Bishop Brian Finnigan.
Fr McCarthy also thanked Conrad Gargett Architecture, whom he said had created a “beautiful site”.
Thanks also went to many others including the management and staff from Badge Constructions as well as staff at the Australian Catholic University for assistance to return to the site.
Brisbane archdiocesan director of planning and building Des Zagami said all teams had worked well together to ensure the project ran smoothly with minimal interruptions.
At this stage 15 seminarians are expected for the 2008 academic year.
