AUSTRALIA will have a second woman on the way to sainthood if the hopes of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor come to fruition.
The Sydney based congregation has gathered information on its founder Eileen O’Connor as a forerunner to preparing a case for her beatification.
Congregational leader, Sr Anne O’Shaughnessy, said the congregation had presented a report to Cardinal George Pell of Sydney and was awaiting a response from him on the possibility of pursuing the case.
Sr O’Shaughnessy said about 150 pilgrims attended a prayer day on Jaunary 10 at the congregation’s chapel in Coogee, where Eileen O’Connor’s body is buried.
Each year, the congregation opens the vault containing the coffin, for a prayer day on the anniversary of their founder’s death.
