ENTHUSIASTIC youth from across Lismore diocese recently joined other young pilgrims in Melbourne for Australia’s first Catholic youth festival.

Youth leader Eloise O’Brien said the Australian Catholic Youth Festival, running from December 5 to 7, enabled the diocese’s youth to join with young pilgrims from across Australia “to celebrate and grow in their faith”.

“The festival also gave us the opportunity to discuss with the bishops, important topics that impact young people,” she said. “Over the three days, pilgrims took part in workshops, activities, prayer, catechesis, praise and worship.

“Each of the sessions were led by many inspiring, captivating and amazing prominent Catholic figures including many of our Australian bishops, and religious as well as other highly regarded speakers. It was also made exceptionally clear that the faith is still very much alive in our young people today.

“The festival also provided great support and inspiration for all those involved in youth ministry.”

Ms O’Brien said the diocese’s youth “were incredibly grateful for the incredible amount of work, care and effort contributed to the event, from the parish communities, our families and generous individuals such as sponsors Westpac”.
