A SURVIVOR of a saline abortion attempt and a chaplain at the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre tell their life stories on a CD forming part of a suite of Lenten resources for Brisbane archdiocese and beyond.
Melissa Ohden and Cameron Auld are among six people who share their experiences in the adult resource You Have Set Us Free.
The resource is one of a series prepared for Lent by Evangelisation Brisbane.
Other resources are Treasures of Hope for children and young people, Family Prayer Time and A New Heart I Will Give You for youth.
An Evangelisation Brisbane spokesman said “these attractive resources enable individuals, groups or families to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Scriptures we hear proclaimed each Sunday.
“For example, in the adult resource, You Have Set us Free, a key question is: How am I Good News to my family, workplace and community?” he said. “In the Good News People section, on the CDs that accompany the book, six people share their personal stories of difficulties and challenges, joys and hopes.
“These stories range from Melissa Ohden, a survivor of a saline abortion, to Cameron Auld, a chaplain at the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre.”
Pope Francis’ words in Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) provide inspiration for the resource, the spokesman said. “His words are included in the opening reflection for each week and the closing prayers,” he said.
“Participating in parish Lenten groups is one way to be formed into, what Pope Francis calls, ‘missionary disciples’.” Quotes from The Joy of the Gospel also feature on a series of prayer cards – one for each week of Lent and Easter.
“These cards are a wonderful way to reach out to people in aged care, hospitals, family members or neighbours.”
The spokesman said Treasures of Hope was sure to be popular with those wishing to inspire children through Lent.
“It is a new program supplied on two CD-roms for use in computers,” he said. “The discs are loaded with resources for leaders of children’s ministry, children’s liturgy of the word, state school RE volunteers and parents.
“Documents can be printed for use in a parish or school.”
