“COME as you are,” – that’s the message from Reco Rally organiser Nattasha Mierendorf.
In preparation for Holy Week, Evangelisation Brisbane is inviting young people from across the Archdiocese to Padua College, Kedron, for a night of praise, worship and reconciliation on March 22.
Ms Mierendorf says Reco Rally will be an opportunity for young people to experience the Sacrament of Penance outside their usual school liturgy or program.
She said that for lots of young people their only experience of reconciliation had been during their sacramental program when they were younger or through school liturgies.
“Reco Rally is going to make reconciliation accessible for young people who have not fully engaged with the sacrament before,” she said.
Ms Mierendorf said the speaker for the event was Ged Trolove who would talk about framing God’s forgiveness correctly.
“He’s going to talk a lot about his own personal story and his experience of going to reconciliation, putting things right, not just with yourself and your friends but with God,” she said.
“At the heart of what we do is giving people the chance to encounter,” she said.
“A chance to have (an encounter) with a communal, universal Church and an encounter with the merciful God who loves them.”
With Reco Rally expected to attract more than 250 young people, EB have organised for a number of priests to take part and provide the attendees with ample opportunity for reconciliation.
Ms Mierendorf encouraged parish leaders to “organise a group, even just a car load, and come out to Padua College for a night of worship”.
“We’ve seen a lot of good collaboration between Parishes and schools in getting the message out and organising groups to come out,” she said.
She said Reco Rally provides an opportunity for the younger members of the Church to experience the divine mercy of Jesus Christ.
Reco Rally is a free event, starting at 6pm at Padua College, Kedron, and ending at 8:30pm.
