QUEENSLANDERS will be able to take off their masks earlier than expected due to lack of community transmission since a snap lockdown two weeks ago.
Premier Annastacia Palaszcuk announced all restrictions would ease from 6am tomorrow, including the mask mandate.
The changes come after Queensland Catholics celebrated a second Easter triduum masked-up and under restrictions.
Queensland recorded no new locally acquired cases overnight.
Ms Palaszcuk said masks were only required at airports and while flying.
“You should always carry a mask and wear it in crowded places where social distancing isn’t possible,” she said on Twitter.
Hospitals, aged and disability care facilities will start to allow visitors again when they are ready.
“You can stand up to eat and drink in pubs and clubs, and dancing will be allowed,” Ms Palaszcuk said.
“Stadiums, theatres and cinemas can operate at 100 per cent capacity.
“Gatherings of up to 100 people will be allowed at private residences.
“As always, if you’re sick – stay home and get tested.”
There is no limit on gatherings in outdoor locations.
The news comes as Princess Alexandra Hospital sent ward 5D into shut down after COVID-19 was detected during a clean.
Ms Palaszczuk said it was not “unusual for traces to be found that are not contagious”.
“My understanding is that it’s not contagious after a period of time,” she said.
“We need to let the health experts look at that issue and report back.”
