FATHER Dan Carroll, who led Our Lady of the Sacred Heart parish at Darra-Jindalee as parish priest for 50 years, died after a sudden illness on August 5.

He died one day after the feast of St John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests and the namesake of his first priestly appointment.

Fr Carroll was ordained on the feast of Sts Peter and Paul on June 29, 1960.

He was appointed associate pastor at St John Vianney’s parish, Manly, in 1960; moved to St Mary’s parish, Beaudesert, as associate pastor in 1963; moved to Mt Gravatt parish as associate pastor in 1965; moved to Holy Family parish, Indooroopilly, in 1968; and moved to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart parish Darra-Jindalee parish in 1970.

He also served as South Country dean from 1989 to 1996.

May he rest in peace.

Fr Carroll’s family will hold a funeral at Twelve Apostles church, Jindalee on August 17 at noon.

The funeral will be livestreamed from the parish Facebook page.
