ROCKHAMPTON Bishop Michael McCarthy has appointed long-serving priest Fr Don White as vicar general for the diocese.
Fr White said he was grateful to Bishop McCarthy for the appointment.
“Like all aspects of a priest’s life and ministry, I understand at the heart of the role is to be of service to the others,” he said.
“So I hope I can be a source of support especially to our bishop and the diocese.”
Fr White undertakes the role from his parish in Bundaberg, where he also serves as parish priest.
He has served in parishes spanning Rockhampton diocese in North Mackay, the Callide and Dawson Valleys region, Walkerston, Farleigh, Rockonia, Park Avenue, Longreach, and the parishes of the South Mackay cluster, and now in Bundaberg.
In 2020, Fr White travelled to Rome to undertake studies at the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum) for a Licentiate in Moral Theology.
His coursework included biblical-historical foundations of Catholic morality, fundamental morals, specialized morals, bioethics, and the moral magisterium.
He completed his studies in July 2022.
In his appointment letter, Bishop McCarthy thanked Fr Peter Tonti, who assisted him in his ministry for the last few years.
