RETIRED priest Fr Vincent Creed was surrounded by loved ones when he turned 100 on Tuesday, October 22.

Friends, family and seven priests celebrated with Fr Creed at Mary Immaculate Church, Ashmore.
South Coast dean Fr Peter Dillon, Fr Tony Guelen, Fr Greg Burke, Fr Mark Reynolds, Fr Brendan Hayes, Fr Brian Cosgrove, Fr Malcolm Giranfold, and Fr Peter Foley concelebrated the Mass with Fr Creed.

Since retiring in 1981, Fr Creed has lived at De Paul Villa Retirement Home, located next to the Southport parish church.

Ordained in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne, in 1939, he is now the archdiocese’s oldest diocesan priest.

He was a curate at St Francis Xavier, Frankston, following his ordination.

He went on to establish St Mary Magdalen, Jordanville parish in the 1950s.

From 1965 to 1970 Fr Creed was parish priest at Seymour and became pastor emeritus while parish priest at St Aloysious Parish, Caulfield, in 1982, after 43 years service to the Lord.

Southport parish also recently honoured 13 married couples celebrating wedding anniversaries ranging from 10 to 70 years.

There was a combined total of 570 years of marriage at the celebration.

All the couples renewed their vows and received a special blessing.
