A YOUNG girl from Tehran was one of a number of refugee children to benefit from a giving spirit at University of Queensland’s, St Leo’s College recently.
St Leo’s students contributed scores of presents for her and other refugee children with an uncertain future in Australia.
The present provided a bright spot in the little girl’s life after she’d spent months in Indonesia and more on Christmas Island before arriving in Brisbane with her parents.
St Leo’s vice-rector pastoral Christian Brother Rob Callen said the college’s students “were aware they are the lucky ones in the lucky country”.
“They feel compelled to extend their hearts to refugee children living in anguish, waiting, and hoping for acceptance,” he said.
“We all agreed these were among the most needy kids. “The students were thrilled to hear that the children would receive the presents immediately rather than waiting until Christmas.”
St Vincent de Paul Society members delivered the presents around Brisbane on the same day as they were collected.
