WELL known Queensland Christian Brother Tony White died aged 92 after a covid infection complicated pre-existing health conditions on May 4.
He had seen his family and friends during the day.
Br White was a cherished member of Edmund Rice Education and held leadership roles in schools across Queensland.
He was particularly remembered in Brisbane for leading St Joseph’s, Gregory Terrace for nine years.
He made significant developments in both curriculum and building works during those years.
He led Townsville’s Ignatius Park College for four years too.
Br White was a proud Bundaberg boy who was born to James White and Ellen Stapleton on the July 5, 1930.
He was to be the eldest of his siblings who are Michael, Patrick, John and Mary.
He grew up in Bundaberg attending the local convent schools and then moved to Our Lady Help of Christians CBC for Year 4.
It was here that Br White encountered the Christian Brothers and significantly, he was taught by Br Frank McCarthy.
Inspired by his role models Br White journeyed to Strathfield in January 1946 and after successfully completing the Leaving Certificate Tony joined the December 1948 novitiate group.
“Tony used the talents that God had gifted him with and we with gratitude say thank you for the life so generously shared with us as brother,” Christian Brother Michael Talty said in a notice from Christian Brothers Oceania Province.
“May Tony, now be welcomed into the presence of the Lord he served so well and faithfully.”
