AFTER another “doughnut day” of zero new community cases, Queenslanders in the 11 mask-wearing local government areas will be able to gather in larger numbers again from 4pm today.
Mask-wearing will be retained.
“People must carry a mask at all times and wear it indoors, or when you are unable to physically distance outside,” Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“Mask wearing remains mandatory on public transport, ride share and at schools for teachers, staff and high school students.”
She said venues such as pubs, restaurants and cafes can have one person per two square metres and you could now stand at the pub for a drink.
Private gatherings are allowed up to 100 people and community sport is back with no restrictions.
The restrictions would be retained as concerns about New South Wales mount as the state records more deaths and hundreds of cases each day.
On Thursday, NSW recorded more than 1000 cases.
Victoria and the ACT are also recording case numbers.
The latest national outbreak was triggered by a surge in delta variant cases.
Queensland chief health officer Dr Jeanette Young said the delta variant was significantly more contagious and could be transmitted within seconds.
She said masks were essential to keeping the community safe.
