ALL Saints Church at Albany Creek has joined a growing list of close contact venues after a person who attended a church funeral last week tested positive to coronavirus.

The site was listed as a close contact venue yesterday.

A Facebook post by the parish said the church and parish office were closed until further notice.

“Parish staff and all who attended the funeral are considered close contacts and must be tested and quarantine at home for 14 days,” the post said.

An update on the parish’s Christmas Masses will be posted soon.

Queensland recorded 34 locally acquired cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

Chief health officer Dr John Gerrard said all but one of the cases were mild.

That one standout case was an unvaccinated person, he said.

Dr Gerrard said the Omicron variant was becoming the dominant strain and if the current trend continues, it would be the dominant strain within days.

“It may seem like a relatively small number but it is double what we saw 48 hours ago,” he said.

“If this rate continues, we will see significant numbers in January as expected.”

Cases have been steadily rising since the state border opened to interstate hotspots last week.

In response, Queensland authorities re-introduced mandatory mask wearing on public transport, rideshares, indoor retail, healthcare centres and airports.
