A CATHOLIC mother of seven who was arrested recently for obstructing patients at an abortion clinic aims to raise awareness on the lack of research into the impact of abortion on women.
Anne Rampa, of Dayboro, was arrested with Graham Preston, a father of six, outside a Greenslopes abortion clinic on February 18.
Both belong to the group Protect Life and have often protested oustide abortion clinics since the group’s formation in 2002.
Ms Rampa and Mr Preston had arrived at the clinic about 6.45am and the police had arrived within 30 minutes.
Ms Rampa said once charged she accepted bail on condition of not returning to the abortion clinic until after her court case on March 8.
Mr Preston refused to accept the conditions and is being held in custody until at least his first court appearance on March 9, she said.
Ms Rampa, in a statement released before the protest, said it was “largely a symbolic action”.
“We will be removed, access will be regained, and the lucrative business of killing the small and unwanted will continue,” she said in the statment.
“The women and men entering the clinic will be angry and upset, as will be the staff.”
Ms Rampa said, some people would claim that what happens at the clinic “was none of our business”.
However, Ms Rampa said she would point out abortion was the business of all society.
“It is the business of all of us … we’re in the business of building this world together,” she said.
“Why should any children be deliberately killed in Brisbane today or any other day?
“Perhaps more importantly: why should we let these children be killed?”
Ms Rampa said another key purpose of such protests was to highlight a lack of research into the impact of abortion on women.
Protect Life is a Brisbane-based group devoted to taking non-violent direct action to stop abortion.
