ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby of Brisbane presided at a Mass on June 30 to celebrate the jubilees of nine priests.
Jubilarians who joined fellow priests, family and friends at the Mass were Fr Coley McKenzie, celebrating 60 years, and Fr Peter Dillon, Fr John Kilinko and Fr Gerard Hefferan, celebrating 25 years.
Others celebrating jubilees but unable to attend the Mass were Oblate Father James Carroll (60 years), Fr Gerald Ronayne and Franciscan Father Cassian Double (50 years) and Society of St Paul Father Bruno Colombari and Oblate Father Peter Daly (25 years).
In his homily, Archbishop Bathersby spoke of the excitement generated among seminarians in the days when June 29, the feast of Sts Peter and Paul, was the day of ordination.
Archbishop Bathersby thanked the jubilarians for what they had done ‘walking as closely as possible in the footsteps of Christ and being supported in that by your family and friends’.
