QUEENSLAND’S first Pregnancy Crisis support centre has taken a big step closer to reality with the offer of land from a Brisbane parish priest.
In last week’s Catholic Leader it was reported a house scheduled for demolition and located at St Peter’s parish, Rochedale, had been offered to provide a haven for women experiencing vulnerable pregnancies.
Pregnancy Crisis Inc president Patti Camp said land was needed on which to locate the house otherwise it would be demolished to make way for expansion at the Rochedale parish school.
Last week Mrs Camp said the project had taken “a big step forward” with the offer of land on which to accommodate the house.
“A priest from Brisbane archdiocese has offered the land and his enthusiastic support for the project,” she said.
“We are very hopeful that the house will now find a home to start the work of giving women a real choice of carrying their babies to term and bringing them alive into the world.
“This is essential because many of the women we support have suffered violence and threats from their partners to force them to consider aborting their children.”
Mrs Camp said the priest’s proposal would now go before his monthly parish meeting for approval.
“If approval is received we will then need Brisbane City Council approval,” she said.
“Then funds will be needed to relocate and establish the house.
“We are also currently in urgent need of administrative support on our journey of prayer and action to help these women avoid the evil of abortion.”
