TRIBUTES are flowing for former Iona College student who died after a shark attack on the southern Great Barrier Reef.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife ranger Zach Robba, aged 23 was flown to Gladstone Hospital with life threatening injuries, but died.

Mr Robba was part of a group of rangers undertaking research and essential maintenance on North West Island.

“This was Zach’s dream job and he embraced all that it entailed,” Iona College rector, Fr Michael Twigg said.

“Zach’s family, (Max – Class of 2019), Sheree (mum), Peter (dad) and Tanika (sister), are aware of our support through our communication with them and are appreciative of your love and care.”

Minister for Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, Leeanne Enoch said the death of Mr Robba was devastating for his family, friends and colleagues.

“The ranger network is like a family and we have lost a brother today,” she said.
