IT’S not every day the Prime Minister drops in, so it was a special honour for the girls at Brigidine College, Indooroopilly when John Howard visited on March 2.
Mr Howard made a special trip to the school to launch a community drug partnership program – and to garner voter support for the March 17 by-election in the federal seat of Ryan.
While at Brigidine, Mr Howard addressed the Year 11 and 12 students and Year 7 students from Holy Family Primary School and spoke of his Tough on Drugs policy which saw the launch of a Drug-Arm Youth Forum last year involving Bundamba State High School students.
Building on that, the Western Brisbane Youth Forum is planned for later this year, to be held in conjunction with students from Indooroopilly State High.
The drug reform program involves Brigidine College, Brisbane Boys’ College, Indooroopilly and Kenmore State High School, in conjunction with Drug-Arm.
After addressing the senior students and staff, Mr Howard was surrounded by students from Years 8, 9 and 10 who formed a guard of honour.
He was escorted to a common room in the Brigidine Sisters’ convent on the grounds and morning tea was served by the prefects and other college leaders.
