JOHN Howard has praised the work of volunteers at a fundraising dinner for Rosies – Friends on the Street at the Plaza Ballroom, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
The Prime Minister, who was guest speaker at the November 9 dinner, said volunteers comprised part of the “great national cement” that kept Australia together.
He said governments could never do the work that volunteer organisations like Rosies did.
The fundraising dinner raised more than $230,000, including a $30,000 donation from the Federal Government, for the not-for-profit organisation which provides friendship and hope to marginalised, homeless and abandoned people living in the community.
