BRISBANE archdiocese has entered into a contract with the Cenacle Sisters to buy the Cenacle Retreat Centre at Ormiston, south of Brisbane, and to develop an Archdiocesan Spirituality Centre.
The archdiocese plans to launch new programs in spirituality in 2007.
The deepening of spirituality in the archdiocese is a priority close to the heart of Archbishop John Bathersby and he is enthusiastic about the opportunity to develop an Archdiocesan Spirituality Centre.
The Cenacle Sisters in the Australia and New Zealand region have expressed reluctance to withdraw from their retreat ministry in Brisbane.
But their decision has been made after facing the reality of aging and declining health while trying to respond to numerous apostolic needs beyond their personnel resources.
Archbishop John Bathersby said he regretted but understood the withdrawal of the Cenacle Sisters and was grateful for their ministry in the archdiocese since 1980.
The sisters said they were grateful for the support and friendship they had received from many people through the years.
Before their departure, the sisters are inviting retreatants and friends to visit them between 2pm and 5pm on August 13.
