Making the situation even more tragic was that the house was full and another 10 women were seeking the service, she said.
“This high level of interest follows a response to an information campaign which has been carried out by PCI throughout Brisbane and further afield to areas such as the Sunshine Coast and Lismore,” she said.
“Clearly there is a great need out there for this sort of service.
“It would be terrible to shut down and lose the momentum which has been building.”
PCI House is located in the southern suburbs of Brisbane.
The charity, as well as running a safe house, provides 24-hours-a-day service, seven days a week, 365 days a year to support pregnant women needing help.
“The position of volunteer supervisor is full time and the woman or married couple will live in a separate suite within the house with free rent, water, electricity, rates, and insurance,” Mrs Camp said.
“Volunteer relief supervisors will provide regular time for the House Supervisor to be absent from the house for time off.
“Other than these issues, the work is a labour of love.”
Archbishop Coleridge said “the demand for accommodation at the house shows what a gift it is to women in need”.
“I strongly urge anyone who may have what’s required to serve as house supervisor to consider the offer – not just as another job but as the call of Jesus Himself,” he said.
