REMEMBERING Gayndah parish’s departed Catholic women will be easier thanks to a new gift sitting above St Joseph’s church sanctuary.
Parishioner Keran McNaught died on June 6, 2011, but her life and the lives of all deceased Catholic women in Gayndah parish will be remembered in two new leadlight glass windows, unveiled last month.
Mrs McNaught’s immediate and extended families, the McNaughts and the Weekes, offered the new windows as a parish gift.
The leadlight windows depict a dove to represent the Trinity and the parish’s three churches, and a lily, which often accompanies images of St Joseph.
St Joseph’s new windows complete the parish’s rebuild of the wall behind the sanctuary.
Parish priest Fr Jason Middleton said the two new windows were “wonderful additions” to the parish, which celebrates its centenary this year.
Fr Middleton said the parish community was “delighted” with the gift.
“These wonderful additions to the parish will not only honour the life of Keran McNaught and all deceased Catholic women of the parish (as is stated on the corresponding plaque), but will further beautify our church to celebrate her upcoming centenary,” Fr Middleton said.
The parish will celebrate St Joseph’s church centenary with a Mass on Saturday April 18, celebrated by Brisbane Archbishop Mark Coleridge.
