BRILLIANT blue skies provided the perfect background for the traditional fleet blessing at the Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club last month.

Noosa parish priest Fr Mark Franklin presided at this year’s blessing, continuing a long-standing tradition.

Fr Franklin said the blessing “commenced the season” for sailors and members of the club’s youth fleet.

He blessed more than 50 boats and crew who set sail at Noosa during the year.

“The prayer we use reminds us that God created the waters, and we need always to be mindful of God as the Creator,” Fr Franklin said.

He said his yachting skills were “not all that good”, but enjoyed the occasional trip out on the river.

A spokeswoman from the club said sailors requested the blessings annually so the “next season will be blessed for them”.
