WITH Greater Brisbane now in a three-day lockdown, Brisbane Archdiocese has issued new directives for Holy Week, including livestream Masses.
During a media conference this morning Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said eight new community transmitted cases of COVID-19 were recorded overnight, and it was too early to say whether the three-day lockdown would be extended beyond 5pm on Thursday.
“We just have to take this day by day,” she said.
Brisbane archdiocese has cancelled Masses in Greater Brisbane until 6pm on Thursday at the earliest.
“The Queensland Government has advised that a further update regarding restrictions will be provided in the evening on Wednesday 31 March and we will be closely monitoring the announcements in order to advise you about the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday evening,” the Brisbane Archdiocese website stated.
“Livestream Masses may continue during the lockdown period with only the Parish Priest and the camera operator present.
“Funerals may be conducted with a maximum of 20 people, excluding officials.
“It appears that priests from outside of the Greater Brisbane Region may preside at funerals in Greater Brisbane in line with restrictions.
“Weddings may be conducted with a maximum of 10 people, including celebrant and witnesses
“Due to restrictions on non-essential businesses, wedding receptions or other events after weddings or funerals should be postponed.”
In all, 14,589 Queenslanders have taken a COVID test in the last 24 hours.
“If you have any symptoms, now is the time to get tested. We need to rule out any further community transmission,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
Under the restrictions people in Greater Brisbane will only be able to leave their homes for essential reasons such as grocery shopping, exercise, work and medical care.
