A NEW $13 million liturgical and pastoral space has been opened to complement St Stephen’s Cathedral in central Brisbane.
The Francis Rush Centre was blessed by Archbishop John Bathersby on September 11.
Representatives from many of the archdiocese’s parishes attended.
Cathedral administrator Fr Peter Dillon said about 250 people attended the blessing, including relatives of the late Archbishop Francis Rush as well as artists and tradesmen who had worked on the building.
Archbishop Bathersby said the new building brought to a completion the cathedral precinct project which began almost 20 years ago with the refurbishment of the cathedral and its grounds.
He said the development made possible liturgical events that could not be planned earlier.
Archbishop Bathersby said as well as providing cathedral offices the new building also provided Cathedral choir space, liturgical vesting space and lecture space for adult education.
