AUSTRALIA’S heads of Churches have joined forces to call a national day of prayer for rain on November 26 to ask God for relief from the nation’s escalating drought.
The 23 Church leaders, including Australian Catholic Bishops Conference president, Archbishop Philip Wilson of Adelaide, have signed a statement calling on all Australians to pray for desperately needed rain, those who are severely drought affected and a commitment to responsibly care for all our natural resources.
The leaders, at a meeting of the National Council of Churches in Australia (NCCA) held in Sydney earlier this month, acknowledged and supported calls from Church groups and other Australians for prayer in this time of severe drought.
Anglican Primate of Australia, Archbishop Phillip Aspinall, invited all Australians to express their solidarity with those who are suffering by taking a few moments to pray or to join a local worship service where prayers will be offered.
The national prayer call follows a similar appeal by the heads of Churches in Queensland for a week of prayer for rain from November 5-12.
