THE Mercy Sisters’ Brisbane congregational leader, Sr Pauline Burke, led a ‘door closing’ ceremony at the former Emmaus aged care facility at Nudgee on April 29.
Emmaus, which opened in February 1972, has been replaced by a new aged care facility on the same site.
Residents, relatives and staff attended the ceremony, which was followed by a procession to the chapel in the new facility, which retains the Emmaus name.
The Blessed Sacrament, paschal candle and crucifix were carried from the old to the new chapel.
Emmaus chaplain, Divine Word Missionary Father Liam Horsfall, blessed the new chapel.
Seventy-one residents moved to the new facility on April 29.
Emmaus is operated by Mercy Aged Care Services, which provides residential and community based care for 175 people in the north Brisbane region.
