NINE young men from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Rockhampton dioceses recently embarked on a Quo Vadis vocations weekend at Banyo’s Holy Spirit Provincial Seminary.
The Latin words “Quo Vadis” mean “Where are you going?”
For these young men, the recent event was a chance to answer the question in relation to the priesthood.
Those discerning came from various cultural backgrounds, including Irish, Filipino, Samoan, Italian and Chinese.
Brisbane archdiocese’s vocations director Fr Morgan Batt said those attending had described the weekend as “life-changing and challenging”.
The program included outdoor activities centred around leadership and group communication, as well as Adoration, holy hours and talks.
Fr Batt and seminary rector Monsignor Tony Randazzo delivered the talks which included a discussion of the concept of priesthood, how to discern a vocation and a concluding session – Where To Now?
Fr Batt said vocations to the priesthood were increasing dramatically in Brisbane archdiocese.
“The interest of the young men who attended the Quo Vadis weekend is typical of this trend,” he said.
“Among the reasons for this increased interest are the ‘consilium’, or monthly meeting of men discerning for the priesthood, and the Canali House of discernment.
“The Archbishop’s recent vocations dinner, attended by about 60 young men, also has played a part.
“There is also the ongoing V9 prayer campaign for vocations.”
The next Quo Vadis weekend runs from September 6 to 8.
