THE amazing deathbed recovery of a NSW woman is another piece of evidence that could be used to bring Blessed Mary MacKillop once step closer to canonistion.
The woman, known only as Rosa, was one of 200 people who gathered last weekend to give thanks for favours at an annual Mass at the Mary MacKillop Memorial Chapel in Sydney.
Blessed Mary MacKillop was beatified in 1995, but one more miracle is needed for her canonisation.
Rosa’s recovery made national headlines.
Rosa was healed in August as she lay in a coma, suffering multiple organ failure after enduring two bouts of breast cancer and a heart condition.
On the night she recovered her family were praying to Blessed Mary MacKillop.
With them was Fr Rafe Beltrame, who is amazed by Rosa’s recovery.
“It’s a big grace,” Fr Beltrame said.
He said Rosa’s recovery could not be called a “miracle” until it had been approved by the Church.
The vice-postulator of the Cause of Canonisation of Blessed Mary MacKillop, Josephite Sister Maria Casey, said the recovery was another piece of evidence that could be used in the process of canonisation.
Sr Casey said it was not known how long the canonisation process with the Congregation for the Causes of Saints could take.
