CHILDREN traumatised by Queensland’s 2011 floods are among those set to benefit from the Mary MacKillop Foundation’s annual fundraising dinner at Brisbane’s Novotel on October 18.

The foundation, founded in 1995, has continued the good works of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop who famously said: “Never see a need without doing something about it.”

“An exclusive evening with exquisite food, delightful wine and grand entertainment, as well as an array of silent and live auction items to make the night extra exciting,” is how organisers have billed the evening which starts at the Novotel at 6pm.

Businessman, philanthropist and media commentator Harold Mitchell will be guest speaker at the event.

From 1995 to 2012, the Mary MacKillop Foundation has supported over 450 “small life-changing” projects with grants of up to $10,000.

Among projects being funded is a Kids Camp for children suffering distress and marginalisation associated with poverty from ongoing impacts of Queensland’s 2011 floods as well as others supporting families, the elderly and indigenous communities.

“We offer our sincere heartfelt thanks to all our incredible partners for 2013, guests and volunteers for their amazing generosity: we simply could not do this without you,” a foundation spokesman said.

For information or to book to attend the fundraising dinner contact the foundation on its events line on (02) 8912 2714 or email events@mackillopfoundation.org.au.
