A NORTH Queensland couple grieving the death of their teenage son after a road accident are urging more people to consider organ donation.
Caleb Woodland, a 14-year-old Year 8 student at Mercy College, Mackay, had his life tragically cut short when he was involved in a road accident on August 3.
His bicycle and a truck collided when he was on his way to catch the school bus.
Caleb died in hospital several days later.
Mercy College principal Jim Ford described Caleb as a caring and affectionate boy with a big heart.
“He was extremely close to his family. He was a ‘homebody’, however he was very social and will be sadly missed by his friends from both St Anne’s Catholic Primary and Mercy College community,” Mr Ford said.
“(He) made a big impact on all who knew him.”
Mr Ford said Caleb’s big heart was still beating.
“Caleb’s heart, two kidneys, liver and pancreas saved the lives of five critically ill people,” he said.
“He gave a final gift which has given comfort to his family, who are asking others to consider organ donation.”
