AN information stand on vocations to the priesthood and religious life attracted new interest at the Careers and Employment Expo at the Brisbane Convention Centre on June 3-4.
Brisbane archdiocese’s vocations promotions officer Mark Lysaght said the first-time presence at the careers expo was very successful.
Several Brisbane archdiocesan priests including Fr Tim Harris, Fr Anthony Mellor, Fr Paul Chandler and Fr Tony Girvan spoke to students at the expo about the priesthood.
Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Oudeman, Moderator Fr Peter Meneely and a few seminarians were also present.
Mr Lysaght said the decision to attend the careers expo was a case of putting awareness about priestly life out there for young people to see.
He said there were “no negative comments” about the display with many people saying it was great to see them there.
Representatives from Holy Spirit Seminary, St Paul’s Theological College, Rosies and NET (National Evangelisation Team) Ministries were also at the expo.
Expo organisers said it attracted between 30,000 and 40,000 people.
