The latest COVID-19 lockdown in southeast Queensland has forced the cancellation of the 2021 Confraternity Carnival being held at Brisbane’s Iona College.
Just as play got underway in early rounds on Day 2 (June 29), the committee of the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Rugby League made the decision based of government advice of a three-day lockdown coming into force at 6pm.
“While we are unable to play finals matches, we are grateful for the opportunities that more than 1230 students had to become Confro players,” a release from the QISSRL said.
“Iona College has been a brilliant host. It’s been a wonderful Carnival. The spirit of play across the last two days has been outstanding.”
A day earlier, Confraternity kicked off with the addition of a girls competition for the first time in the carnival’s 41-year history.
