NEW Queensland president of the St Vincent de Paul Society Brian Moore has warned the society has a limited future unless it can be “refreshed with new members and volunteers”.
Mr Moore, a member of the society for more than 40 years, made the comment soon after his recent election as president.
He was elected after previous state president John Campbell finished his four-year term.
Mr Moore said he was “humbled and honoured to have been chosen and trusted to lead the St Vincent de Paul Society in Queensland”.
“I hope to carry on John’s urgent work of recruitment, induction and training of ‘all generations’ in the society’s good works,” he said.
“Unless the society is refreshed with new members and volunteers, and renewed with a sense of purpose for the importance of our service to those in crisis, we have a very limited future.
“I firmly believe that all members of the Vincentian family must work closely with one another, with their local community, family to family, and with the poor that we assist.”
Based just outside Warwick, Mr Moore has held a number of positions within the society from local conference president to central council president of Toowoomba.
Queensland chief executive officer Peter Maher said he was looking forward to working closely with the new president.
“Brian is a well-respected, and well-liked member of the society with a long-standing presence in Vinnies,” Mr Maher said.
“His unrivalled understanding of the society’s core works will ensure the pace of our expansion continues to meet the growing needs of Queensland’s disadvantaged.”
