CAPE TOWN, South Africa (CNS): The crisis in Zimbabwe, where white-owned farms have been invaded by people demanding land, has raised concerns that a similar situation could arise in neighbouring South Africa.
Eighty per cent of land in South Africa is still controlled or owned by whites.
“There is great expectation of land restitution, and we need to be careful that slowness in settlement does not lead to a situation like Zimbabwe,” said Bishop Kevin Dowling of Rustenburg, who heads the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference justice and peace department.
